Grommets; what are they and why might they be needed 

What are Grommets?

Grommets are tiny hollow tubes, usually made of plastic or metal, that are surgically inserted into the eardrum.

The purpose of grommets is to ventilate the middle ear and allow any fluid build up to drain.

They are primarily used to treat conditions like Glue Ear and recurrent middle ear infections.

Grommets also usually fall out on their own as the ear drum naturally heals

Beyond Silence: 22 Ways to Build Effective Communication - Deaf Awareness Week 5th - 11th May

This annual event is dedicated to raising awareness about the Deaf community, promoting understanding of Deaf culture, and celebrating the diversity of communication methods. The theme for 2025 is "Beyond Silence," encouraging greater understanding of how Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals communicate. 

How many methods of communication can you think of that will enable you to communicate better with a deaf or hard of hearing person. Maybe one or 3? Sign language, lip reading or via hearing aids maybe?

There are in fact a vast amount of ways to communicate more effectively with those that are deaf and hard of hearing, in this blog we cover 23 of the most common ones (but there will be many more)

How to use Hearing Devices with an iPhone

Tasha Ghouri (from love island and Strictly Come Dancing fame) has a cochlear implant and in a recent interview, she talks about (in her case) how she hears through her implant and not her ears, she goes on to speak about how she can pair bluetooth to her iphone to enhance her hearing aid user experience.

However, it is not just those with cochlear implants who can benefit from connecting their aids to their phones, there are many other hearing aid devices that can also provide the same service.
